Personal history before the war

My uncles William Anderson James and Charles Kennedy were half brothers. William the eldest's father died, his widow remarried and Charles was born. They were both unemployed, with no job prospects, so joined the Royal Scots before the war.

William's home address was in Blyth, Northumberland.

Wartime experience

Both men were serving together in Hong Kong when the Japanese invaded and both were captured. They were fortunate to both escape the sinking of the Lisbon Maru.

Sadly William died of Chronic Enteritis whilst a Prisoner of War in Osaka 1b POW Camp, Japan, but Charles was liberated from Osaka 2b POW Camp and made it home.

Personal history post-war

William is buried in the war cemetery in Yokohama Japan.
