Personal history before the war

Edmund was the elder son of Horace and Emily Hutton, a Wiltshire family.

He was from a long line of farmers and horse trainers, but broke the mold to become a newspaper journalist, writing for newspapers in Sussex, Wiltshire and Bristol.

According to a relative, he had applied to join the Mounties in Canada before war broke out and changed the course of life.

Wartime experience

Edmund was called up for war service. After training, he was sent to Hong Kong where he was ranked as a Leading Writer on HMS Tamar.

His only child (who was never to know his father) was born during the Battle of Britain. Only one photograph exists of Edmund with his wife and son.

The above information was provided by Beth Hutton granddaughter of Edmund Feltham Hutton.
