Personal history before the war

Edward Terence Cadle, or Terry (as he was known) was the 4th of 7 children of Frederick Cornelious Cadle and Ann ( nee Walker ). He was born in Fforestfach, Swansea, son of a coal miner and a leather worker.

Terry's mother died when he was 7. His Father was killed in a colliery accident at Garngoch Colliery Gorseinon on the 21st January 1934 when Terry was 16. The family were then brought up by the older sisters, Catherine and Ruth. Terry worked at the Garngoch Colliery before enlisting.

He was closest to my Mother Dorothy who was 2 years younger than him.

Wartime experience

Terry enlisted in July 1939 and was posted to Hong Kong. He was captured when Hong Kong fell and was interned in Sham Shui Po Camp.

He was declared missing in action, presumed dead when the Lisbon Maru sank. His body was never found.
