Christopher was born in Clapham, London, the 4th of five children of Matthew and Emily Warren. The family moved to Mitcham, Surrey in 1924. Occupation on enlistment was a wire worker. World War 2 started on his 20th birthday.
Christopher enlisted on 6th December 1939 and was posted to Prestatyn, North Wales.
He departed the UK for Hong Kong on 4th February 1940. He served as Lineman for Hong Kong Signal Company.
Far East Prisoner of War at Shamshuipo 25 December 1941. Departed Hong Kong for Japan on the Lisbon Maru 27 September 1942.
Presumed lost at sea 1st/2nd October 1942.
Posthumously awarded 1939/45 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Star and War Medal. Commemorated on the Sai Wan Memorial Hong Kong.
The Army Enlistment document from my uncle's service record shows that his Army number was originally 2330322 but at some later point was altered to 2330321 and initialled.
WO 392 British POWs held in Japan or Japanese occupied territories 1943-45 has service number 2330322 then altered to 2330321.
WO 345 Japanese Index Cards of Allied POWs 1942-47 has service number 2330322.
I also have five of his original handwritten letters from Dec 1939 to Nov 1941 where he gives his service number as 2330322.
