Personal history before the war

Thomas John Stone grew up in South Wales. He worked in Exeter as a hotel porter until he signed up to join the Royal Navy.

Wartime experience

Thomas trained in Plymouth as a Stoker before being posted to Hong Kong and joining HMS Tamar. He served on HMS Thracian clearing mines in Hong Kong harbour.

He was captured by Japanese when Hong Kong fell and was held at Sham Shui Po camp then transferred to the Lisbon Maru.

Thomas died when the ship was destroyed.
